Types of Hearing Aids Available

There are four main types of hearing aids, named according to how they fit your ear:

Behind-the-Ear (BTE), from regular size to miniature.
In-the-Ear (ITE) also known as Full Shell because it fills most of the ear
In-the-Canal (ITC), a smaller hearing aid
Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC), the smallest type of hearing aid

There are variations and in-between steps within the above categories.

For instance, behind-the-ear hearing aids come in various sizes and shapes. The choice of which style of hearing aid is right for you is based mainly on the extent of your hearing loss, any medical conditions of your ear, your dexterity and your personal preference.
